Happy Fourth of July! It’s a holiday weekend, so you’ll probably have plenty of time to relax and party — or play video games inside while everyone else is setting off fireworks in the scorching summer heat outside. If you’re like me, you’re probably looking for new games to play over Independence Day weekend this year, and subscription services like PlayStation Plus Premium have a ton of options for you to try out. I even found three holiday-themed ones for you to try out.

The first is an Assassin's Creed game set during the American Revolution, and is actually one of the very few games that delves into that period of American history in any comprehensive way. If you're looking for something more sarcastic or satirical about America, Black Forest Games and THQ Nordic have a remake you should play. Finally, if you associate aliens with that classic Will Smith movie Independence Day If you're looking for fun as well as fireworks this holiday weekend, Housemarque has a game you must play.

Assassin's Creed 3: Remastered

Assassins Creed 3 completed the original narrative epic The Assassin's Creed series is set during the American Revolution. The Assassin's Creed series at its peak, with a captivating modern-day narrative starring Desmond and an intriguing historical open world to explore with fun parkour mechanics. It's also where the naval combat that would later define it takes place. Assassin's Creed 4 black flag (and finally Skull and bones) first appeared.

Despite Assassins Creed 3 Originally released in 2012, Ubisoft remastered it in 2019, and this version of the game is on PS Plus. Not only does it have the fantastic base game, but it also has fun The Tyranny of King Washington DLC and PlayStation Vita spin-off Assassin's Creed III: LiberationIf you're unfamiliar with the Assassin's Creed lore, you might feel like you're in for a deep dive, but here are a few of the best games to play on PS Plus around July 4: Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered.

PS4 version Assassin's Creed 3: Remastered It is available through the PlayStation Plus Extra games catalogue. The original version of the game was released for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, but Assassin's Creed 3: Remastered Also available on PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Destroy All Humans!

THQ North

If you're looking for a more satirical take on American culture this Independence Day weekend, then you'll want to play Destroy All Humans! From Black Forest Games and THQ Nordic. This is a 2020 remake of a PS2 cult classic about an alien named Crypto who collects DNA from humans on Earth. But this isn't a hardcore action game; it's more cartoony fun with colorful visuals. Players can use a wide variety of weapons, telekinesis, and even fly around in a UFO to fight enemies and collect human DNA across several open-ended levels.

Destroy All Humans! It's shamelessly satirical; by the end of the game, you'll be fighting a “Robo-Prez” robot in the United States capital before impersonating him on a national broadcast. While the game's PS2 origins can be seen in its slightly wonky gameplay, it has enough of a distinct personality that I'd recommend it to fans of quirky third-person shooters. Its focus on poking fun at 1950s American culture and its colorful aesthetic make it a surprisingly viable summer game.

PS4 version Destroy All Humans! Available via PS Plus Premium. If you only have access to the PlayStation Plus Extra section of the games catalogue, then check out: remake of the sequel This is at that level of service.

Estrangement

Alienation gameplay.
House brand

Because of the movie Independence Dayaliens are heavily associated with this holiday weekend. If Destroy All Humans! If that's a little too funny for you, then I suggest this: Estrangement.Like Item dropI was suggested last week, Estrangement is another great arcade inspired game published by. Return Before Sony acquired it, its developer was Housemarque. Estrangement It actually has a little in common with the original. Hell Diversis an isometric cooperative shooter about a group of super soldiers defending Earth from an alien threat for a world government.

Instead of taking place on alien planets, Estrangement takes place in locations all around the world. It also stands out for its character classes, leveling and skill tree system, and random loot drops that players must watch out for when they're not mowing down alien hordes. Like much of Housemarque's work, Estrangement flashy but also inherently satisfying to play, capturing the same excitement Return a huge box office success when viewed from an isometric rather than third-person perspective.

Estrangement is still exclusive to PS4 and available via PlayStation Plus Extra.
