It's the most exciting time of the year to be a video game fan, as almost every major video game publisher is preparing to release new showcases highlighting upcoming games. We'll have tons of new video games to be excited about at Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, and the next Nintendo Direct. Even though the titles are like this Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Some of these shows have already been confirmed, so part of the fun of this summer gaming marathon is anticipating what will pop up.

There are five announcements in particular that I hope to see in this summer's showcases. From games that were leaked but not officially confirmed to games that were announced years ago and have since gone dark, each of these will likely move towards the top of my personal most anticipated list if they're showcased during a showcase this summer. With any luck they'll be out soon.

Metroid Prime 4 re-emergence

Metroid Prime 4 Time is running out to resurface. Nintendo Switch's fall 2024 lineup looks barren, with the launch of the system's successor on the horizon for 2025. It's been more than five years since the project was rebooted under Retro Studios, and almost seven years since it was first announced. Nintendo needs a big game this fall that isn't just a remake or re-release, and I think Metroid Prime 4 It could be the game.

Metroid Prime Remastered From 2023 showed me just how intricately designed these games are and why the Metroid sub-series is considered so special. I hope Metroid Prime 4 it could live up to those expectations and serve as a last hurray for one of the most popular video game consoles ever made. Nintendo has confirmed that it will be holding a Direct this June, so if it does appear this year it will likely be during this show.

BioShock 4 was finally introduced

Big Daddy stands tall in Bioshock.

Continuing the trend of long-awaited fourth games. BioShock 4. In December 2019, 2K confirmed that this long-awaited sequel was in development at Cloud Chamber Games, but we've yet to get an idea of what they're working on. Historically, BioShock has been a series that has pushed the boundaries of narrative presentation in video games. Although the series' creative director, Ken Levine, is currently working on judas I'm interested to see what the next generation of developers at his own studio, inspired by the original BioShock, can do for the sequel.

For now, I'm a little more excited about Ken Levine's. judas Than the Cloud Room BioShock 4, but that's mainly because we've seen some of the former and nothing concrete about the latter. Summer Game Festival made fun of 2K will “unveil the next iteration of one of 2K's biggest and best-loved franchises” during the show. Even though this turns out Mafia 4, Borderlands 4or Sid Meier's Civilization VIII hope it will be the next game in the BioShock series.

A medieval-themed Doom game

Doomsday Eternal

One of the biggest rumors floating around ahead of the 2024 summer shows is that id Software and Bethesda will unveil a new game in the Doom series. Sites like Acting from the Inside Here's how they report it will appear at Xbox Games Showcase: Apocalypse: Dark Ages and will be set in a “medieval-inspired world of Doom.” Adding a medieval twist to Doom's hellish heavy metal aesthetic is a radical idea, so here's hoping there's some truth to these stray rumors.

Both 2016 Apocalypse and the 2020s Doomsday Eternal They are industry-leading games that turn first-person shooter combat encounters into puzzles to be solved using the right weapons and on-the-fly strategic thinking. I can't wait to see how id Software applies this type of game design to weapons more suited to the fantasy world. Xbox Games Showcase is shaping up to be a rich event this year with titles like: Indiana Jones and the Big Circle, AnnouncedAnd Black Ops 6 soon but if Apocalypse: Dark Ages If it appears, it could be the crown jewel of the show.

Horizon Zero Dawn is getting the Lego treatment

A. The May 30 State of Play gave us a look at some of this fall's biggest PlayStation 5 games: Concord, Until DawnAnd Astro Robot. However, we have not seen the name of a game that has been the subject of such intense rumors lately. Lego Horizon Adventures. As the name suggests, Lego Horizon Adventures a Lego game reportedly set in the same universe Horizon Zero Dawn And Horizon Forbidden West. PlayStation now sees Horizon as a high-end series, so the prospect of introducing it to an entirely new, more kid-focused audience via Lego would be an interesting move if these leaks are true.

I'm particularly curious about this: Lego Horizon Adventures It will simplify the gameplay, as TT Games' Lego games have done, or find a way to bring the series' signature hunting and trapping mechanics to Lego form. As for where this game might appear, I'm not too sure. It didn't appear at State of Play, but PlayStation is listed as an official Summer Game Festival partner, so it may appear there.

Mid-gen upgrades for Xbox Series X and PS5

Living room with television and soundbar, along with Microsoft Xbox Series X (L) and Sony PlayStation 5 home video game consoles.
Future Publishing

For over a year, we've been hearing rumors that the mid-generation console, similar to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, would be renewed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. We even leaked it. official documents discussing them. Although it may not feel like it, we're almost four years into this console generation, which makes it the perfect time for us to get an updated, slightly more powerful version of the current consoles as a stopgap measure before the next console arrives. generation platforms from Sony and Microsoft.

If any of these consoles are coming out this fall, I'd love to hear about them soon. I'm sure the general audience will want to know about it too, so they can start saving some money for themselves too. Xbox Games Showcase would be the perfect place for Microsoft to show us the future of Xbox, especially in a year when people were doubting its future in terms of hardware. I was also disappointed that the PS5 Pro wasn't mentioned during the State of Play. Hopefully Sony will finally unveil the upgraded console this summer – if it actually exists.
