How to make a DIY ottoman for a modular sofa

Step 1 – Cut and assemble the sides

In this step we need to make two identical sides for the ottoman.

Below are the instructions for one side:

Cut two 2×4″ to 12″, one to 21″ and the other to 24″.

Connect them together using the pocket holes. Use wood glue and make sure it is square when assembling.

Step 2 – Connect the sides

Cut two 2×4″ to 27 ½” and attach them to the sides with Kreg jig pocket holes. As always, use wood glue to glue them together.

Step 3 – Add brackets for the slats

Cut two 2×2″s to 21″ and attach them to the sides with wood glue and screws.

Step 4 – Add the slats

Position the slats and secure with screws. I used 2×3″ on the slats and covered the entire ottoman, but you can leave the same distance as on the single arm sofa and corner unit. It's up to you.
