Sony has finally unveiled its PC adapter for PlayStation VR2, which will be released this August and will allow gamers to finally try games like the following. Half-Life: Alyx with headphones.

PSVR2 has impressive technology, but it's no secret that Sony has failed to back it up with impressive games for the PS5. Earlier this year Sony was rumored to be working on PC compatibility for the headset; We have now learned that this will come in the form of a PC adapter that people can use with a DisplayPort 1.4 cable to play VR games via Steam. These are the minimum specifications your computer will need to get PSVR2 up and running right from installation. PlayStation Blog.

OS Windows 10 64 bit / Windows 11 64 bit
Processor Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or higher architecture required)
RAM memory 8 GB or more
GPU/graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or above (Turing or above architecture required)/NVIDIA RTX series-AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or above/AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or above
(For best performance, we recommend using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. or above or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT or above graphics card)
DisplayPort DisplayPort 1.4 (must have a standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port)
USB Direct link only
bluetooth Bluetooth 4.0 or above

It's not exactly plug-and-play; To get Sony's headset to work with PC games, players will need to download the PlayStation VR2 app and SteamVR on Steam to complete the installation process. PC VR games will also not be able to take advantage of haptic feedback, HDR, and eye tracking, which are some of the headset's best features. The disclaimer in the PlayStation Blog post also confirms that 3D Audio “uses SteamVR's audio technology rather than Tempest 3D AudioTech, which is only supported on PS5.”

This is all disappointing, but Sony has confirmed that transparent view, enhanced rendering, 4K visuals, and 110-degree field of view will all still work in PC VR games.

The PlayStation VR PC adapter will be released on August 7 and will retail for $60.
